Compensation

God meant our life to be a power, and he has so formed us that our noblest satisfaction is found in that which we are able to accomplish for his glory. Sorrows are the spurs which goad us to our sublimest endeavors. They freshen and purify the soul. They wake its powers into activity. They set in motion its deepest springs.
