Scripture Its Own Witness

The Scriptures carry in themselves independent and convincing evidence of the truth, validity, and sufficiency of all the narratives, doctrines, promises, and threatenings they contain. Truth is its own witness, and exacts our assent. I recognise the handwriting of a friend without needing to be told who has written to me. We want not the stars, much less a torch, to show us the sun — it is only the blind that cannot see it.— Bengel
