Not Plainer

When Rev. Thomas Scott, the celebrated commentator on the Bible, had published an edition of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress with expository notes, he benevolently presented a copy to one of his poor parishioners. Meeting him soon after, Mr. Scott inquired whether he had read it. The reply was, "Yes, sir."

"Do you think you understand it?"

"0 yes, sir," was the answer; " and I hope before long that I shall be able to understand the notes."
